What is Invisalign MA?

Invisalign MA Camas, WA

Treatment with Invisalign® MA is aimed at tweens and teens who present with retrognathic Class II malocclusions in permanent dentition or stable late mixed dentition. Retrognathia (formally known as mandibular retrognathia) is a condition in which the lower jaw is disproportionately long compared to the upper jaw.

This condition usually only becomes noticeable when you are viewed on an angle. Retrognathia is a difficult condition to deal with. It can interfere with your ability to sleep, eat, or speak. Class II malocclusion, or an overbite, is one of the most common reasons children and teenagers seek out orthodontic treatment. In fact, it accounts for about 45% of teenage case starts around the world each year.

Invisalign with Mandibular Advancement looks much like regular Invisalign aligners, with one key difference: there are wings located between the premolars and first molars on both the top and bottom set of aligners. These two sets of wings interlock and place the lower jaw in a more advanced position. With time, skeletal correction takes place, with the lower jaw eventually growing into its proper placement, eliminating the overbite.

MA stands for mandibular advancement. Mandibular advancement is commonly used to treat an overbite and overjet by placing steady force to the lower jaw to draw it forward. Traditionally mandibular advancement is accomplished with braces and elastics or with functional appliances. Often, mandibular advancement and straightening of the teeth is done in separate phases, resulting in a longer overall treatment time. Invisalign MA is designed to replicate the action of elastics and functional appliances through new “precision wings” which hold the lower jaw in a forward position, while simultaneously correcting malocclusion and crowding issues. This simultaneous correction will shorten the overall treatment time.

Advantages of Invisalign MA:

Teeth straightening and jaw positioning in one step

No discomfort from metal appliances, wires, or brackets

No appliances to get in the way of brushing and flossing

Works for both simple and complex cases

Fewer unexpected orthodontist visits

Invisalign® MA is an excellent option for teenagers to help bring the top teeth back and the lower arch forward. The Invisalign® MA precision wings are designed to gradually move the lower jaw improving the bite and appearance of the chin. Whether your child is active in sports, theater, music, or dance, Invisalign® MA is a great alternative to metal/clear braces with a spring appliance. Invisalign® MA is more comfortable to wear and is easier for your child to keep a clean and healthy mouth than traditional braces.
